Railroad Signal Controllers for Collectors

Railroad signal controllers

Bring a Real Railroad Signal to Life.

Wireless browser-based controllers for collectors, museums, displays, and custom railroad-signal projects—without requiring dedicated control software.

Available controller families

Built around the signal you own.

Controllers are configured for the mechanism, number of heads, lamp groups, and indications required by the customer’s signal. Current availability and pricing are maintained in the shop.

01 / Searchlight

H, H2 & SA

Single- and dual-head control for compatible US&S and GRS DC searchlight mechanisms.

02 / Position light

PRR & N&W PL

Independent indication selection, editable indication delays, and customer-specified default cycle times.

03 / Color position

CPL

Standard B&O indications with support for up to eight bulb groups and select modified configurations.

04 / Multi-color

3-Color & Custom

Safetran, G-type, miscellaneous multi-color heads, and custom relay configurations.

Searchlight platform update: Single-head searchlight controllers now use the DHSL controller platform, populated only with the relays required for the application.

Browser-based operation

Control it from your phone, tablet, or computer.

The controller creates its own wireless network and is operated through a web browser. No dedicated application needs to be installed.

  • Master relay on and off
  • Start the programmed indication cycle
  • Select individual colors or indications
  • Manually flash an available color
  • Adjust indication-cycle timing

Searchlight controllers

Single-head and dual-head operation.

Single Head

  • Compatible with tested DC US&S H/H2 and GRS SA mechanisms
  • Red, yellow, and green requested-color indicator LEDs
  • Manual indication-cycle switch and reset button
  • Programmed cycle through red, flashing red, yellow, flashing yellow, and green
  • Lunar option available by special request
  • 115200-baud serial monitoring through micro-USB

Dual Head

Dual-head controllers provide the same browser and manual-control features while operating two heads. Head A is the upper head and Head B is the lower head.

The standard cycle includes Red/Red, Flashing Red/Red, Yellow/Red, Green/Red, Yellow/Yellow, Red/Yellow, and Red/Green. Reasonable custom indication-cycle changes can be programmed.

CPL Controllers

  • Browser controls shared with the searchlight platform
  • Programmed with standard B&O indications
  • Supports up to eight bulb groups
  • Selected modified configurations may support an additional group
  • Customer identifies the bulb groups and marker-light arrangement
  • Operates from the 12VDC bulb supply

Custom controllers

Have something unusual?

If a standard controller does not fit your signal, reach out. Custom boards, added relays, unusual head arrangements, and specialized indication programs can often be accommodated.

The example shown uses a modified CPL board with an additional relay to support a three-head G-type signal.

Power, installation & safety

Plan the installation before energizing the controller.

Power and enclosure

  • Searchlight boards use micro-USB power; a power adapter is not included.
  • An auxiliary terminal and a suitable 12V-to-5V micro-USB converter may be used when properly installed.
  • The signal lamps and mechanism require an appropriate external DC power supply.
  • Optional 3D-printed cases are not waterproof.
  • PL and CPL assemblies operate from the 12VDC bulb supply and arrive pre-wired to the included terminal block and relays.

Safety requirements

  • Do not touch an energized circuit board or live traces.
  • Never place or mount the board on a conductive surface.
  • Use properly sized wire and fused connections.
  • Do not draw more than five amps through the controller board.
  • Use a clean, stable DC supply. Electrical noise may prevent correct operation.
  • After startup, reset, or a power interruption, searchlight controllers default to a red indication.

Warranty and use: Controllers are tested before delivery and are warranted against defects for 90 days. Relay service life cannot be guaranteed beyond that period, but WirelessBilly will work with customers to diagnose later failures. The customer is responsible for proper wiring, power, mounting, and safe use.
